Broken Telephone
apart of Come Up To My Room 2019 at the Gladstone Hotel
Rooted in collecting personal memories, photos, observations and gestures on paper, Broken Telephone explores the process of making and the ways in which we recall memories. This collection of shapes is repeatedly drawn, and redrawn; varying naturally until the original reference point becomes ambiguous. The tactile experience of drawing, cutting, sanding, gessoing and finally painting becomes the focal point. These simple actions becomes obsessive, and equally meditative.
The cut-outs leave the freeness of drawing and become something more permanent. This personal language creates an indirect narrative; these shapes stop being tied to memory, and become new feelings.
